Next up on our Q&A regular is Sydney-sider Briana Cowlishaw, with her hyper sweet voice and jazz infused songs, who like me has a penchant for cheesy 90’s boy bands.
My name is: Briana Cowlishaw
I sound like: Norah Jones/Fiona Apple
Inspired by: The Beatles
I reside in: Sydney
My local music scene is: The Sydney jazz scene & singer/songwriter scene – Both quite small but filled with great musicians!
The most annoying thing about my scene is: There’s not enough venues to play at!
My best gig to date was: Headlining the Chilpo International Jazz Festival in South Korea, 2013.
The song that gets me dancing is: ‘Red Red Wine’
First album I bought: The Spice Girls
My musical youth involved: A lot of ballet dancing, playing the clarinet, singing in the choir, and performing to my family with a hair brush as my microphone in the living room… So cliche but so true!
Pop music is: Fantastic
If I could have written any song it would have to be: ‘This Old Love’ by Lior or ‘Blackbird’ by the Beatles
Do you play Fifa? If not, do you have a favourite game? I’m not really a game type of chick… But I love sudoku? Haha
Favourite Restaurant: Yulli’s (Vegetarian on Crown St, Sydney)
The thing I hate most about bloggers is: When they don’t say anything original!
My musical guilty pleasure is: Listening to the Backstreet boys.
The sporting team I follow is: The Waratahs – Really only because my Dad loves rugby but has 4 daughters, so we try to take in the ‘son’ roll every once in a while! Haha
If I weren’t a musician I would be: A visual artist or a …mathematician? NOT! Maybe a Speech Pathologist?
