Swim Good

This is my first post here on Destroy, White Boy since the move. So welcome, hope you all enjoy our new home! Anyway, back to business..

I am really slow on the uptake when it comes to anything Odd Future related. But I’m glad I came to the party eventually.

While Tyler the Creator, the head honcho of the crew, has released arguably the song of the year and has been hogging all the limelight, another member of the collective has been racking up the points in the background. The man I am talking about is Frank Ocean.

Frank Ocean, along with contemporaries like The Weeknd and Drake are rewriting the rule book on RnB. Gone are the bitches. Gone are the hoes. Gone are the big dumb dancefloor beats. Its all about dark lyrics, clever turns of phrase, restrained rhythms and unconventional hooks (if you can call them “hooks” at all).

Frank Ocean hasn’t released an album proper to date, however with plenty of interweb buzz and a cameo on a Jay-Z and Kanye West LP no less, I have a feeling this young lad is on the way to the top. Two of his most recent releases, “Swim Good” and “Novacane”, have been such a pleasant surprise, I have been playing these two tracks over and over all day.  These songs exhibit such a complex and fresh sound from someone who still pretty green. I can’t begin to tell you how much his music excites me. Watch this young man, he will be massive.

I understand where your coming from, Frank Ocean has been out for awhile and most people just forget that his Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape was very good for someone who just popped on the scene. Also I think artist are noticing him since he was on No Church in the Wild with Jay and Kanye.

Exactly – his appearance on Watch The Throne really what got me to notice this guy.

“Swim Good” just blew me away the first time I heard it – listening to it felt like I was dipped in a tub of Listerine. It sounded so fresh.

The more I listen to Watch The Throne, the more everything other than Frank Ocean begins to bore me. He’s brilliant
